Former Lincolnville resident Idella Parker recently celebrated her 96th birthday in Pompano Beach, where she now makes her home.

She lived in St. Augustine in the 1940s, first at the home of Frances Shaw, 139 Martin Luther King Ave.; then, after her marriage to Bernard Young, at 81 Kings Ferry Way, where there is now a historic marker honoring her.
"Idella Parker is the last living close associate of Florida's emblematic novelist Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who passed away at Flagler Hospital in 1953," recounts historian David Nolan, "and she has been nominated to the Florida Women's Hall of Fame in the State Capital at Tallahassee."
Idella Parker worked as a maid while here, and later a beautician and teacher.
